Military-Style Fashion for Fall

Posted by  in March 8th 2012

Old Crappy Tee Magazine warned you about it in March. Now it’s time to get prepared!

Military-feminine. If you can get your hands on it, please do! Plan to wear your boots and look Eastern bloc mysterious undercover agent unbelievable. Blue-grey and steely colors form smart top-coats with faux fur trim. Narrow army coats sport distinct buttons and epaulettes. Soften your hard-as-nails look with a hint of lace cami that peeks out from underneath the lapel of your trench, or a surprisingly gorgeous fabric pencil line, to the knee or just above, slits at the side or back.

Runways this year have if fact seen styles patterned after every uniform era imaginable . . . from beautiful gold borders gracing garments with military influence to coats and jackets reminiscent of Napoleon’s style. Buttons are key, large and small, as they embellish the rich look and cut of these fashions.

Now, just a few more tips to look military chic!

1. Wear your military style jacket or coat overtop your favorite jeans and with a lightweight or sexy top underneath. You can keep your clothes simpler due to heavy embroiders, embellishments, epaulettes, ornaments and the like (especially so if you’re lucky enough to find a really fabulous overcoat or jacket.)

2. Remember, the look you’re going for is not soldier camo (which to some onlookers may be in poor taste – given the times.) You are aiming for a classic officer class look, cooler and Russian romantic. Fur trims are keys, shiny brass anything, dressings up on the shoulders, and don’t forget signature long shiny leather boot-wear.

3. Keep the overall feel of the outfit hard (with a bit of mystery of course!) How? Lots of black, very fitted, waist-accentuating and buttoned-up chic. If the jacket is long, opt for a belt if possible.

4. Black, more black, and if not black, somber and foreboding color is key.

5. As mentioned above, boot-wear is essential, so keep an eye out for the best this season. Try a pair of lower, more rounded-toe boots. Keep an eye on your hemline and your boot height when cinching that outfit together. You want to opt for the most flattering choices for your calves, no matter what’s most stylish!

6. Since your military style jacket is not inherently feminine…..try it along with your favorite skinny pants (if you are into “skinnies”) or try a flowing skirt. This is the way to go if you want a softer look.

7. Yes, you can wear your flats with a military-style jacket.

8. Is your military style jacket or coat missing the bling? Not to worry! Get creative and populate those empty spots and lapels with your own accessories. If your fashion find doesn’t have pins, big buttons and the like, try out vintage items, medals, fashion jewelry, and other second-hand items. Get creative, the items don’t have to be military-ish. You can also check out your local sewing or craft-goods store to dress up your find with your own custom design.

9. Accessorize to impress. Choose a belt or bag with dictinctive glamour. In tasteful amount, brass studs, buckles, belts. Keep it spy-rific.

The Children of The City of Benares

Posted by  in March 2nd 2012

The City Line steamship, The City of Benares, sailed from her home port, Liverpool, on Friday September 13th 1940, an inauspicious day. On board she carried a very special cargo, children, 90 city kids whom their parents deemed would be safer overseas than facing the bombing at home.

The City of Benares was a fine modern ship, built on the Clyde in Glasgow in 1936, 11,080 tons and capable of sixteen knots. She had two centrally mounted funnels in yellow, white and black, and she certainly did not look like a freighter, more of a cruise ship.

When she was 600 miles from the nearest land south of Iceland she was hit at approximately ten o’clock at night by a single torpedo fired from the highly successful German submarine U48. The pandemonium that broke out after that can only be imagined as survivors attempted to find their way to the lifeboats. But due to rough seas and Force 5 winds, lowering the lifeboats proved terribly difficult, and several capsized.

248 of the 406 people on board, were lost, including more than 70 of the children.

One day and one night later HMS Hurricane, a modern Havant class destroyer launched only in September 1939, came to their rescue and picked up most of the survivors. Unfortunately she missed one of the lifeboats, Lifeboat 12, and this remained alone on the ocean for eight days and nights in heavy seas and freezing weather.

In that lifeboat were 30 Indian seaman, a Polish millionaire trader, several merchant sailors, 6 evacuee boys, a Roman Catholic priest who had volunteered to accompany the children, and Mary Cornish their supervisor. Whilst on the boat rations consisted of one ship’s biscuit, a piece of tinned fruit, a little juice from the tin for the lucky ones, and a sip of water, per day. Nothing else. One of the Indian seamen died shortly afterwards through drinking salt water.

Luckily, another British destroyer finally spotted them, the Acasta class HMS Anthony, built in 1931, a fast little ship capable of 36 knots. In the intervening time, some of the parents of the boys in that boat had been informed their children had been lost. They were in for a big surprise.

The sinking of the City of Benares prompted an immediate end to the policy of overseas evacuation for British city children during World War II, though there are conflicting reports as to whether that was entirely the case. Certainly private evacuations continued afterwards.

Incidentally, HMS Hurricane had a chequered history. She was sunk whilst berthed in Liverpool docks by German raiders on the night of May 8th 1941, but she was raised and repaired and returned to service. Then she was sunk again in the mid Atlantic near the Azores in December 1943 while serving with the task force of the American escort carrier USS Card.

At the time of the sinking of the City of Benares, the U.S. Secretary of State Mr Cordell Hull described the action as a “Most Dastardly Act”. Perhaps it contributed in a tiny way towards hastening America’s entry into the war.

Military Family – Cardboard Boxes and Blank Walls

Posted by  in February 22nd 2012

The Challenge of Every Military Wife – The personal growth of meeting new people and having new experience was getting old fast.

What do you mean we have to be across the country next week?? How can the kids be pulled out of sports, school and the arms of their best friends again?

Good thing we still have some of the cardboard boxes left from the last move. We never got around to unpacking them, so that is even better. At least the content is written on the outside of the box.? The majority of the boxes ended up with labels of Kitchen Misc. or Bathroom stuff or “I Hate This Crap-I Don’t Want to Move-signed by The Indentured Servant Who Wanted to Go to The Mall Today”

One would think after 12 moves in 15 years, a smart family would begin to simplify their possessions. A smart family would rid themselves of old yearbooks, unused cookbooks, scruffy stuffed animals and pans with no lids.? A smart family would just look for the nail in the walls and hang their pictures on them, regardless of placement.? By the time we found the separate boxes holding the hammer, level, hooks and pictures, it was almost time to move again.

No, we weren’t the smartest family in the military, but we were one of the most grateful.? We were filled with gratitude for each other, the ability to see the country and to make new friends and grateful for the experiences along the way.

One particular pivotal experience was moving into military housing on Vandenberg Air Force Base in Lompoc, California. As Dwain and I were unloading boxes, the children ran into the back yard to explore.? They came rushing back to tell us about the strange “thistles” all over the place.

Always the teacher, I called everyone around to tell them about artichokes.? I explained how delicious they were and that we would savor them at a coming meal.? I also used the teaching moment to say that the people who had lived here before had planted the artichokes, knowing that they may never see the fruits of their labor.? Given that it takes artichokes two years to produce, they were leaving a gift for us.

We talked about how we must follow their example and plant seeds everywhere we went. We would plant vegetable seeds, flower seeds, but most of all we would plant the seeds of kindness. We may never see the fruits of our labors just like the family before us, but we would do it anyway.

As we sat on cardboard boxes and looked at blank walls, we feasted on artichokes and butter and praised those who had given us this gift.

Our daughter Deb remarked that the artichoke was like some of the families I work with as a parent educator; the outer edges are tough, closed off and have prickly parts that can hurt if you get too close.? It is only through time, warmth and patience that we can find the outer leaves peeling off more easily and we reach the real treasure- the heart.

The artichoke is now my logo and stands as a symbol of finding the heart of the story in the journey of life. Our journey with cardboard boxes, blank walls and a military life may be a thing of the past, but the life lessons and forever friends will always remain in our hearts.

Cyborg Soldier Skill Stop Slot Machine Review

Posted by  in February 12th 2012

Cyborg Soldier, or Cyborg 009, is a classic comic book and animated series from Japan. In fact, there were actually three animated versions of this series – one in the late 1960s, one in the late 1970s, and one from the early 2000s. Three full length movies were also made for this great Japanese classic. Some of us will remember watching imported copies of the early animated series, or the more recent one, and now you can feel like you’re right in the action with the Cyborg Soldier Skill Stop Slot Machine.

These specially refurbished machines, imported from Japan, are a lot of fun, and require no conversion. It’s all been done for you. These Best Slot Machines are ready to use American power outlets and voltage, and require no installation. Despite the fact that they’ve been refurbished, there’s no need to worry about the fun being interrupted, since each machine comes with a top to bottom warranty on everything but the light bulbs.

A key is included to give you complete access to this Antique Slot Machines, and you can change the odds using the key or a reset switch. Also included with the Cyborg Soldier skill stop slot machine is a basic operating manual to help you solve problems using it. If that’s not enough, unlimited toll free telephone support is also available, and you can email if you have questions.

Custom labels are installed, allowing you to locate the volume, power, and reset controls without reference to the manual. That’s because these were originally labeled in Japanese, and would be harder to find unless you read the language. You can play anywhere from one to three coins at a time, but be aware that this machine accepts primarily Slot Machine Tokens, not real money. It can’t be readily refurbished to accept spendable coins.

You’ll have full, casino grade light and sound to let you feel like you’re really in the action, and animated LCD display screens to entertain you for hours. These machines have come to America straight from Japanese casinos, and have been reconditioned to be just like new. All defects have been sanded away and filled, and any flaws in the paint have been seamlessly repaired. Then, an electrical overhaul is performed, using a checkpoint system that ensures perfection and keeps the user safe and the machine fully functional.

Once it’s certain that all electronics are in perfect working order, the cleaning process starts on this classic Japanese machine. All interior components are carefully cleaned and lubricated to make certain they’re working properly. The goal is a machine in original factory condition. High quality, effective cleaning solutions that work without damaging the finish are used on the exterior, and detailing wax restores the original factory shine.

Why is this Cyborg Soldier Slot Machine called a Skill Stop Machine? That because you stop the spinning reels using buttons on the machine. There are no pull down arms on this type of Casino Slot Machine. This allows you to add a little more to the typical slot machine experience. You can also play unlimited Free Slot Machines Games since you aren’t playing with real money.

The Cyborg Soldier skill stop slot machine is a type referred to as a Pachislo Slot Machine. These are authentic Japanese gaming machines used in international casinos. Japanese casinos can use these machines for no more than two years before replacing them, and they may wait much less time. That’s how it’s possible to get your hands one one of these excellent, classic anime-themed slot machines. If you’d like to experience the feel of a real casino at home, consider the Cyborg Soldier skill stop slot machine.

Why Are Our Companies Supporting Countries That Do Not Support Democracy?

Posted by  in February 10th 2012

I believe that it is time for our companies to stop making all our basic products over seas where people are being used for cheap labor to support economies that do not support democracy for all people. I think that our companies are taking advantage of cheap over seas labor to make more profit then they should off of products that should be made here at home. I believe that this practice by our companies is making our need for supplies from other countries more then it should be. I think that it is time for people to start rebuilding our own economy first. I think that buy investing in our economy here at home again for our basic needs will create more jobs for people that are not working in our country.

I believe that companies have to support democracy in our country by making our products here at home again. I believe that making so much of our countries basic products over seas is just taking money and jobs that are needed out of our country. This will just weaken our economy it will give money to countries that abuse their labor force. I believe that our country is not only weaken by this our companies are supporting countries that do not support democracy.

I think that companies that sell their products here should make their products here at home where our own people can prosper from all these sales. Why are our home based companies going to start supporting democracy for all people. I know when one child or person works for less then a fair wage democracy takes two steps backwards. Supporting unfair labor over seas will just make democracy that much harder to support. How can our country preach democracy to other countries when our home based companies abuse their labor force to line the pockets of their government and our own companies.

Rebuilding our own economy to make products at home will once again make our country less dependent on other nations that use their children and people for unfair labor. I believe that for our country to make democracy work in all countries our nation must start making our people less dependent on other countries for every thing that our people need. This money should not only be put back into our economy this money will help build up our economy for all people.
I have watched and read about so many products made in other countries being called back because they are not made like they should be. This is because our companies are letting these people make inferior products just so their companies can make more profit. This happens because these people can not make a decent living because of unfair labor practice by these countries. I believe that it is time for our companies to stop supporting unfair labor in other countries just to make a few dollars more.

I believe by our companies supporting countries that abuse their labor for they are breaking the very laws of democracy that they live under. I hope that our home based companies will once again support our labor for to rebuild our products here at home. How many American troops have died fighting for democracy. While our companies are supporting other countries that do not have fair wage or democracy. Our troops are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan right now so that countries like china can make profit off the basic needs of our country.

I believe that if democracy is going to work all our people our government and our companies have to support this. I know by once again making our basic needs here at home will not just create jobs this will lesson our need to depend on other countries. I think that in order to make democracy work for all people our country has to set the example by not using unfair labor over seas to make our products. This will not only secure our commitment to democracy for our country this will be telling other countries you want to do business with this country make sure you have fair labor agreements with your people first.

I believe that this will pave the way towards creating democracy for all countries. I believe that no country should use their children or people line their own pockets. By supporting unfair labor practice in other countries our companies are supporting the practice of unfair labor abuse by countries that our country is trying to help achieve democracy. This will only weaken the fight to achieve democracy for all countries. I hope that our companies will make this a total country commitment for democracy by not just our government and our people this has to be done with the total support of our companies.

I believe that freedom and democracy is worth fighting for by all companies that want profit from the sales of their products. I hope that all companies will commit to making our country independent once again by making our products here at home. I believe that freedom and democracy must be achieved by all our country for this to finally work for all people. I hope that freedom of will and choice will over come need of greed to secure our nations needs to be make more of our products here at home.

Why I Support Our Troops In This War

Posted by  in February 5th 2012

Let Me explain why I think that our government and our people should support this ongoing war in Iraq and afghanistan. I Believe that our country must stay the course of this war that so many of our people and the Iraqi people have suffered and died for. This is a war that should have never been started to stop the war now would not only weaken the belief that democracy can really work for this country. Iraq and their people would lose faith in the belief that there really is a better way of life worth fighting for. This would not only bring a new supply of young people to support This twisted View Of religion that men like Osama Bin Laden are teaching making more future death machines out of more young children. This would only prolong the cycle of war and terror that this country and the world would have to deal with in the future.

I believe that our government has to sit down together and find a way to succeed in this war before this country creates another generation of people for men like Osama Bin Laden can use to strengthen his twisted religious beliefs. This will only make it hard for the next generations of our families to have to deal with. I do not believe that their is any other choice then to support our troops in every way that we can and help bring about a successful end to this war.

I believe that this nation and their people mostly do want peace and growth for the next generation of Iraqi people. I think to run out on this country now would only bring a bigger and longer war through the middle east. These two countries Iraq and Afghanistan must be made a shining example of how real democracy can and must work. The longer our government fights over this war the longer it will go on.

I believe that all our government better start working together to bring a successful end to this war that so many or our troops have fought and died for. It is not important now who was for this war and who was not just get together on the same page and make Iraq a real democratic allies instead of future terrorist allies of men like Osama Bin Laden. This war can go down two ways in history. One as the biggest blunder our country ever made. The second is the better choice to finish this war and create a future country of allies that will stand by our nation.

To walk out of this mess now will weaken our nation the next time some country wants help from our nation. Countries will always believe that when the going gets tough our country will back away and leave them to stand alone. Having Iraq as a long term future ally will give our country the perfect way to show these other countries in the middle east that democracy really does work. I believe that if our country runs away this will give twisted men like Osama Bin Laden a feeding ground of people to fill with his twisted ideas of religion that will result in thousands of new death machines out of these young children. Even these children should have a future where they really learn the true words of God and not this twisted religious view of endless death.

Other wise our government is telling all the troops that have died or been crippled in this war was for nothing. This government started this war now lets not let all this death on both sides be for nothing. Instead of fighting to stop this war get together and find ways the get the Iraqi government working to help end this war. This war is hard for all our people but it has to hardest on the troops to hear that they are fighting and dying just to be told they are fighting for nothing. Think about how much harder it will be for our troops to come home remembering that all this death and horror that have lived and seen was for nothing? Remember these are the people that have to believe that all this death wa for a better way of life for a new nation. I believe that living with all the scars and terrible memories these troops will remember must have a cause that they can mentally connect with. Other wise our troops will only remember all the worthless death they were a part of.

Death and horror are hard for any person to live with but take away the reason why our troops fight for will leave nothing but the memories of death and blood that our troops have seen . life will be hard enough for our troops to get on with when they come home. I believe that to take away the reason for all this death would just leave these troops with and empty feeling of accomplishment.

This is why I support our troops for a great success in this fight and war.

As always I write with respect
