ok, but another aspect here— we can all talk about how socially relevant Buffy is or has been, but another aspect— I remember the first time I saw buffy, I thought wow, she is so damn sexy, her dark hair is like an erotic waterfall, and time has not lessened this, she is still damn hot as hell, and just kicks ass musically
If we didn’t fight for you, you’d be outraged that no one would stand up in your defense. The “universal soldier” also ensures that you’re able to say whatever you’d like. The universal soldier fights so that you don’t have to. War doesn’t end. To imagine it could is childish. Don’t hate us. If we didn’t exist, you’d be forced into that position, and then for once in your life would have to make a tough decision.
Mohammed Ali refused to take the step forward, ” no vietnamese ever called me nigger,” he said. If 50,000 young americans had done the same, that message would have spread across the globe and war could have ended then for everyone. And don’t give me that communist threat bullshit, communism grew out of the poverty caused by capitalism, and that poverty is still with us.
it’s not even the politicians, nor the people. NONSENSE. The people rarely send anyone to way. THE BANKS, RUNNING GOVERNMENTS WORLDWIDE, START AND STOCK WARS. GET A GRIP.
Wacek4444–It was my pleasure to share this story. I am delighted that you have discovered Buffy’s music. Her songs carry such a wide range of deep feelings, and truly come from a heart that is true to itself. Buffy, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez and Bob Dylan have had a great influence on my own poetry, songwriting and performing. I agree with you about all the crap that gets passed off as music these days. As Joni put it so well, the music business has become a cesspool.
Thank you for sharing this story.
I’ve just discovered Buffy’s music thanks to the movie Soldier Blue and internet, her words give so much inspiration, and her voice is so full of emotions. I wish performers like Buffy and Dylan were regulars on MTV instead of crap that’s being mostly shown there.
Cheers!
At the height of the Viet Nam war, a small group of students and professors at my university met to develop a strategy to protest this vile, undeclared war in a non-violent, peaceful way. Everyone was frightened. Names were being put on enemy lists, etc etc.
I asked them all if I could sing a song for them. Guess what I sang. When I finished the last verses of “Universal Soldier”, a professor whispered to me–”My God, you could lead them anywhere with that.” “Thank Buffy, not me,” I replied.
i wish buffy were right that each of us is responsible for war, because then we could stop war. google:
“USA Has A History Of Attacking Themselves To Go To War!”
loving ones country and patriotism could be considered vital ingredients for war.
Adopt the more wholistic view that all humanity is one family. All races and nationality are brother and sister, this is the truth.
Patriotism is a condition the soul is polluted with as it grows up in this world. A newborn baby cares not for such things, it looks upon all as equal. This is the mentality we should strive for.
You will not find a a more buddha like mind than a newborn chlld.

If we had armies of aide willing to die instead of armies of soldiers willing to kill, I think we’d have a much better world to live in.

Buffy Saint-Marie certainly knows all about what wars do … as an indigenous North American Indian upon whose peoples such wars were perpetrated …
